Across the island of Ireland, a new generation of electronic music DJs, producers and vocalists is cranking up the dancefloor intensity. At major annual events like Belfast’s AVA Festival, which programs house, techno, garage, trance and more, and Cork’s Open Ear, which focuses on more experimental electronic sounds, Irish acts have had ever-growing stages to platform their music.
In and around festival season, club-meets-outdoor space Dublin’s District 8 in particular has been at the forefront of programming styles of house and techno that appeal to Irish crowds. This spans the thumping euphoria of hard dance and minimalistic grooves of tech house to sounds like Irish bounce, with its boy racer aesthetic, cheeky samples and elastic melodies.
Some of the biggest names in the Irish electronic scene right now include Galway’s KETTAMA, who’s energetic, hooky blend of techno and hard dance — heard on his 2025 album, ‘Archangel’ — has seen him collaborate with acts like Underworld, Fred again.., VTSS, Interplanetary Criminal and Partiboi69, among others. Up in Belfast, BICEP, a duo comprised of longtime friends Matt McBriar and Andy Ferguson, has brought a spotlight onto the Irish electronic scene with their tender-yet-euphoric mix of 1990s rave, trance, pop and house music, which further comes to life through their impressive live A/V show, which they’ve since taken on global tours. You can learn more about BICEP in our Sound Advice interview series, where the pair joined us to discuss more about their creative process, the influence of their Irish heritage on their productions, their growing analog studio, their tips on the art of blending genres and more.
Another star is Dublin’s Jazzy, a DJ and vocalist whose R&B-indebted vocals have been on platinum-selling dance tracks like “Somedays,” with Sonny Fodera and D.O.D, and “No Bad Vibes” with KILIMANJARO, among others. You can hear more about Jazzy’s story and Irish roots on her episode of Sound Advice. Bubbling under the surface of this international success is a local underground that’s thriving. Stalwart DJ Sunil Sharpe has evolved his work into local activism, championing nightlife in local government and pushing to keep clubs open for the next generation, with a crop of young acts creating a thriving local club and festival circuit of homegrown talent.
Across styles, the sound of the Irish scene reflects the warmth and intensity of Irish crowds. Tracks and mixes are all about keeping the energy high, with memorable hooks and punchy grooves, all night long. Dive into this collection of tracks by contemporary Irish acts — featuring Prozak, Ejeca, Symmetrik, Belters Only, Saoirse, Or:la, Kessler and more — and discover the hot new electronic sounds of Ireland.
