Textbeak has been making and DJing dark and unusual music for many years now. Influenced by artists like Coil, Cabaret Voltaire, and Skinny Puppy, in the late 80s he began making music with whatever he had on hand in projects with long time friend Todd Sines (Planet E, Peacefrog). In 1991 Mike moved to Columbus, Ohio with Todd and joined up with Titonton Duvante (Residual Records) and Charles Noel aka Archetype (Ongaku, Black Nation) to start B/Re (Body Release). In 1994, his band Bath signed with Jevan Records (owned by gothic band Lestat) and recorded at Noise with producer Kramer (Shimmy Disc, Bongwater, Low, Galaxie 500). In 1998 he began to release solo works as Textbeak on labels such as Dark Daze (Carlos Peron of Yello), Moon Sounds (Dallas), Lasergun (Savas Pascalidis in Berlin), Tundra Dubs (Worker/Parasite), Sequel Sound (San Francisco). His label Philtre Com (with Claus Muzak Lucas Kuzma) released works by NT89 and others. In 2011 he began TXTBK's CHVяCH XV BяXK3N 7ANGvAG Radio which has become a staple of the dark electronic scene and featured mixes by Philipp Strobel [aufnahme + wiedergabe], CRIM3S, BLVCK CEILING, Clan Destine Records, Mannequin Records and many others. He has done many DJ mixes including Grim Harvest Halloween 2012 for Мишка with actor Omar Doom (Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds), Cleopatra Records and THE BRVTALIST. He has performed at events opening for Merzbow, Modern English, Bestial Mouths, Larry Tee, Nitzer Ebb, David J (of Bauhaus), Light Asylum, Test Department, Skin Town (Nick Turco of Zola Jesus), Meat Beat Manifesto, and The Legendary Pink Dots to name a few. He has remixed many artists including Blush Response (Ant-Zen), Architect (Daniel Myer of Haujobb), Tamara Sky (Lil Death LA), Bestial Mouths (Cleopatra, Clan Destine), and ∆AIMON (Tundra/Artoffact). From his compositions to his genre-destroying DJ sets, he constantly creates new and unusual sound collages and mixes. His latest release, Sick For Songs A Season Eats is on Cleopatra Records with a remix album coming out very soon.
