No matter what Pote Baby does with hip-hop or where it takes him, everything about the rapper can be traced back to his hometown of Savannah, Georgia. His name is even a reference to Savannah, which is a seaport city. “Because of the accent that we have, ‘port’ comes off as ‘pote,’” he explains.

As Pote Baby’s music earned national attention, he supported Atlanta duo EarthGang on their tour and released his Turtle Crossing EP on SoundCloud in 2022. One of Pote’s biggest release Set It Up on SoundCloud has generated over 1.5 million streams, which is featured on Turtle Crossing EP Extended.

Pote Baby is taking his relationship with the platform to another level by taking us through his hometown in his First on Soundcloud Docuseries.
In his episode of the First on SoundCloud docuseries, Pote Baby explains that seeing his mother succeed in Savannah instilled a sense of pride in his hometown. He’s aware of the obstacles facing rappers who come from smaller towns, but he sees them as sources of motivation rather than deterrents.

“You got less resources, less opportunities, which means I’ve got to work double hard…And I like working hard, but that’s what comes with it.”
Pote Baby isn’t interested in going elsewhere in pursuit of success or begging for attention. He believes that if he continues to work hard and follow the path that he’s on, the world will find him right where he is.

“Because I’m from a small city, a lot of people think they have to go to bigger cities and beg for that opportunity…that’s not me. I wasn’t raised to beg, I was always raised to build.”
Pote Baby’s most endearing quality is that he’s up for the challenge of building something sustainable in a small town. “I come from a city people ain’t never heard of…that’s always a cool story to tell.”

Pote Baby’s commitment to Savannah goes beyond music. He also established Pote Day, a free, three-day, community-based event that encourages entrepreneurship and the pursuit of creative endeavors in the city.
