The New York-based producer and DJ Daniel Fisher is perhaps best known by dance music punters as Physical Therapy. More recently, though, he’s been making music under a new moniker, one that takes a focus on something more downtempo and shoegaze-informed: Car Culture. Whatever the alias, when it comes to making and playing music, the guy knows ball. We sent him some questions about his personal Best Songs for hyper-specific situations, and he shot back some answers. Give it a read and listen to Car Culture’s great Nothingburger EP, which features two original tracks and remixes from Purelink and Hotline TNT, below.
Best song by a 90s emo band?
“Songs About An Angel” by Sunny Day Real Estate
Ahhh such a hard question … Has to be “Songs About An Angel.” I actually didn’t get super into emo until like 2021 lol but I did love Diary in high school.
Best song to listen to hungover in bed?
“Mine Til The End Of Time” by Sonny Kamahele
My secret hangover cure is listening to Hawaiian music from the 50s and 60s. I like, say, Bing Crosby or Elvis doing Hawaiian music, but the best ones are by Hawaiian artists. I found this Sonny Kamahele album at an estate sale or something and wore it out.
Best song by a trip hop artist made over the past decade?
“Believe In Me (Feat. L)” by Stigma
A lot of good ones, especially in the last five years, but Pessimist put out an album under an alias called Stigma in 2021 that I feel like just nails the vibe. This track “Believe In Me (Feat. L)” is my fav.
Best song under 80 BPM?
“So Blue” by The Vibrations
Best song over 170 BPM?
“Sola (Sola)” by India
Best song to listen to while doomscrolling Instagram?
I think for true doomscrolling you really need to have the sound on, experiencing the full sensory assault.
Best song you wish you produced?
“BIRDS OF A FEATHER” by Billie Eilish
Best song that reminds you of 2003?
“Such Great Heights” by The Postal Service
It would be kind of insane for someone to answer this with anything other than “Such Great Heights.”
Best song to listen to while taking the city bus?
“Perfect Hand” by This Is Lorelei
I remember being in Tokyo last year alone and wanting to have my Lost In Translation moment™—so I would wake up every day and take the train or bus to a random neighborhood or suburb. I listened to “Perfect Hand” by This Is Lorelei on repeat for every journey, start to finish, for five days. Shouts to DJ Python for sending this one to me.

Best song to play while eating a burger?
“These Burgers” by The Moldy Peaches
