Danforth by Prospero2013

Danforth is a humanoid
of a height and build similar to a human body,
but he tends to appear bigger and taller.
His eye sockets comprise sharp orifices
of a steep inward slant,
from which emerge small, round reptilian eyes.

Danforth's job is to oversee
the subtle technology trials.
He likes to think of himself as fair-minded.
He is driven by the idea that mankind
must be protected from knowledge,
an overabundance of knowledge
will certainly lead to Chaos and Death.
The truth of this equation is firm and undisputed.

E. is the second face on Danforth's forehead.
It creates images on the inside of his eyes.
Danforth can then focus from the outside
and search inside of his own mind,
digging through a strange maze
of smoke and mirrors
for clues and signs
that will lead him in the right direction.
In this state he unerringly fails
to examine external evidence critically.
Only darkness is certain
and knowledge is a threat.

Danforth may ask the accused:
"Where have you been?"
The accused may then respond:
"I talk to the subtle channels
but they do not hear..."
Danforth will then interpret this statement
as a clear confession of guilt
and administer punishment accordingly.

Even at the end of large time cycles,
when it becomes obvious that society is disintegrating
into multiple meaningless strands
lacking direction or meaning
Danforth will steadfastly refuse
to see the role
that the subtle technology trials
played in this disintegration process.

As a hidden secret incarnation
of subtle technological procedures,
Danforth himself does not hear,
Danforth cannot hear.
Beyond him there is no further recourse to appeal.
Beyond him there is only the dark.
