Green party conference agrees that zionism is racism. Significantly, this motion points out (correctly) that: 1. Zionism is a racist ideology and Israel is a zionist, ethonosupremacist project. 2. That anti-zionism is NOT antisemitism. 3. That the Palestinian people have every right to resist Israeli violence and colonisation by any means necessary, including armed struggle. 4. That the only just solution in Palestine is the establishment of a single democratic state with equal rights for all faiths and ethnicities on the entire territory of historic Palestine. These positions are already being labelled by establishment media as 'antisemitic' and 'extreme', when they are actually simple statements of fact. But what does the passing of such a motion mean for Green party policy? How did so many sincere anti-imperialist and anti-zionist activists come to be Green party members in the first place? How is Zach Polanski likely to handle the contradiction between the new policy and the already adopted (and strongly supported by him) support for the IHRA definition of antisemitism, which explicitly states that anti-zionism IS antisemitism? Will the Green party's elected members of councils, parliaments etc now have to stand by this position? Will Polanski himself give his own view on the matter before the Holborn & St Pancras by-election or will he allow voters to believe his party has become genuinely anti-zionist and keep his likely retractions til afterwards? Is is clear this conference decision is not the end but just the beginning of the next saga of anti-imperialism v establishment witch-hunting in one of Britain's bourgeois political parties. It is likely that one of the lessons the ruling class will be (once again) teaching us during this period is the impossibility of using a pro-imperialist (pro-Nato, chauvinist, completely servile to the needs of finance capital) institution as a means for promoting a genuinely anti-imperialist programme.
