Project Bassoon Quartet Project Bassoon Quartet (PBQ)’s founding in 2014 reads like a fairy tale. Four Eastman School of Music student bassoonists were catapulted into the spotlight when their video of the Late Night with Seth Meyers theme song arrangement—sent to that show’s house band—was featured on live television. Their media success has resulted in major community support for the group’s continued writing and performing. PBQ’s music spans genres from folk songs and classical chamber music to jazz, punk rock, pop, and music for television. The group often flexibly expands to a quintet or sextet to feature percussion accompaniment and contrabassoon. PBQ’s arrangements have been featured at the 2014 International Double Reed Society Conference in New York City, on Rochester’s WHEC-TV ROC City Tonight, Eastman School of Music’s 2015 Holiday Sing, and NBC's Late Night with Seth Meyers. After their media success, PBQ members Clayton Kullander and Liz Rosa collaborated on writing a series of holiday tune arrangements. Thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign, Project Bassoon Quartet self-produced Project Bassoon Quartet: The Christmas Album in December 2014. The album was re-released in November 2015, and a PBQ tour of New York and New Jersey took place in December 2015, where they performed nine shows in 30 hours to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. This was the group’s second year touring as part of “St. Jude’s Jam” to benefit St. Jude’s Children's Hospital—in conjunction with Brooks Brothers' Thanks and Giving season. In February 2016, PBQ was featured on WXXI’s Backstage Pass with Julia Figueras.
