Instead I wanted to produce a feeling, something between a stage and a public space. Installing props and architectural models in-situ, it’s something I return to across my practice. I often work closely with the curator and the institution to respond to the specific architecture of a space. And with the Communal Project Space, with its public facing architectural feature and reception, shaped everything about how this installation sits. The props you see here, all appear on the film but here they’re arranged on the stepped stage lived by theatrical lighting, the shadows that cast on the opposite wall are as much a part of the work as the props themselves. This installation marks ten years since I first came to the UK and a move towards something I don’t yet know. The in-betweenness is something you might feel standing here between space, between genres, between moments. It’s exactly what the work is trying to hold.
