Darryl Booth, born in Brooklyn, New York, better known as Probe rok is a music producer, DJ, emcee and sound engineer. Raised in Far Rockaway, Queens by both of his parents until they divorced when he turned 10, he moved back and forth between Brooklyn, Queens and Harlem as a teen. Probe’s parents were lovers of music and so was he. His father had tons of records and turntables which he was forbidden to touch. Fortunately, his mother let him use the equipment to hone his DJ skills while his father wasn’t home, beginning at the age of 6. DJing lead to emceeing & producing and producing lead to sound engineering. Now, Probe is a 100%, completely self-sufficient, walking song.
In 2004, Probe paired up with his partner Jon Solo to form music group, Spymusic, who released their first project, The Start of Something Big, on boutique label 2000 Black, owned by world-renowned DJ and producer, Dego McFarland. Probe followed up his release by producing tracks for independent label Fast Track (Koch) and artists such as J-Live and The Incomparable Shakespeare. In April, 2011, Probe released his long awaited debut album, Life Is a Movie, featuring artists such as The Incomparable Shakespeare, Swave Sevah, Phase One, 2Face (A Butta ans Swigga) and others. With production help from Mark De Clive Lowe and “broken beat god”, Domu, Life Is A Movie has received great reviews from the blogosphere, including industry tastemaker site Okayplayer.com. Probe is working on his follow up project to LIAM and currently operating a boutique recording studio in Harlem, New York.
