The Jeonju Zoo by Dabang Band by Gord Sellar published on 2013-08-31T11:44:54Z One of two songs originally written by me on the Dabang Band album "Product" (2004), featuring me on tenor sax. This song was inspired by the constant questioning I received after moving to Jeonju City, South Korea, about whether I'd gone yet to see "The Jeonju Jew"... or that's what I thought people were asking me. Finally I figured out that they were mispronouncing "Zoo" because there is no "Z" sound in Korean. By all accounts at the time, the zoo really was a dire place, though the elephant without a trunk is the only example taken from real life. (The wolf lacking a lower jaw was actually a riff on line from a poem by Oana Avasilichioaei that I read when we were in a short-lived crit group together.)
