In This Interview, Trae chats with visiting judo athletes Cody and Estella about bringing the “gentle way” to Broome and introducing the community to this respectful and inclusive martial art.

The pair recently delivered free school sessions and community training, helping local kids (and even parents!) jump on the mat and try judo for the first time. They also helped run Broome’s very first regional judo club competition — a big milestone for the local sporting scene.

Cody explains what makes judo special, from its strong focus on respect and sportsmanship to the lifelong friendships formed on the mat. Estella shares her journey as Australia’s current national champion and what it’s like representing the country on the international stage.
