We are very pleased to welcome 'X or Size' (Josiah Wolfson) to the Good Morning commune. @xorsize
Currently residing in New York City, Josiah owns the incredible esoteric vortex that is Aeon Bookstore - where by chance we first met a few solar cycles ago. (https://www.aeonbookstore.com/)
During that visit to Aeon (just like the open hearted & friendly soul that we've come know) he kindly gifted us with a cassette of his own original productions - painstakingly & mindfully crafted over many years, of which we are very excited to present to you now, alongside some of his newly conceived pieces of grand(heart)expansion.
Some honest words below from X or Size on this amazing EP....
"Covert ID consists of 7 tracks spanning 7 years, 7 planetary bodies distinct in climate and chemistry but all spun around the same sun, the core of which comes from the search for a specific sound sensed in adolescence, a sound which began to meet its potential around the start of this period. This time was marked by a series of transformational events, starting with the end of a band and leading up to the founding of Aeon Bookstore in New York City. Alongside those events these years were marked by a time of deep personal realignment, including a strongly rekindled interest in Eastern Mysticism that had been fostered at age 14, a return to visual art practice left dormant (culminating in the creation of the collage which adorns the cover), as well as the discovery of the dance floor and the revelation of liberation that came from it. In some ways a debut, with very limited releases under various names more than 10 years in the rearview, this was a period of total rebirth and regeneration, a stripping away of expectations more closely situated with the childlike curiosity that first came about with the purchase of a 4 track and drum pad at age 11, the 4-track being the ideal space to escape the alienation of youth and a world all too real for an already oblique mind.
That foundational feeling is distilled here through an anomalous approach that has developed naturally since then and which is rediscovered and realigned each time within the act of creation itself. An array of analogue elements are foraged to form a loose lattice which congeals at its own pace through musical practice as a daily method of meditation, sculpting around the pulse of a work-in-progress as a form of centering on a kind of breath, informing and informed by the pursuit of peace, presence, and personal growth. This runs through the course of the work, as the tape opens with a piece that was initially conceived in a moment of purest bliss only to be refined throughout a period bleakly bedridden by injury, with all energy focused on sound as both escape from and expression of existential acceptance. That balancing act reached its peak in the title track, first formed in the face of lockdowns and worked on bit by bit each day for several months as the dread in the air would dissipate and rise again, on the one hand embracing the harsh reality as a platform for reflection and on the other hand allowing this as the only space to remain free from it's baggage. These pieces were all cauldrons of self-discovery and self-recovery during times of great upheaval and ecstasy, a pivot point to be lost and found through hypnotic sublimation, finding root for regeneration in repetitive rhythm and a means for mystery in the minutiae which orbit the origin. An exercise in focus, and exorcism of attachments, X as the unknown, cut to Size but always allowing for either/or, one foot on earth the other in the aether."
