MO the Great

MO the Great is a producer, rapper, poet from Boston, MA, raised in the neighborhood of Roxbury, home of legendary artists like GURU of Gangstarr, New Edition, and Donna Summer. MO’s love of music started in the church, singing in the children’s choir as a soloist, followed by writing poetry in elementary school, which quickly developed into a passion. As a musician, her studies on ethnno-racial trauma healing through music grounds her artistry, using music as an intervention of healing from oppression for all who have been othered by society. MO the Great produces, writes, and performs hip-hop futurist sounds honoring the traditions of the genre while expanding its boundaries. Her unique productions pay homage to her Nigerian-American roots, her father from Lagos with I
jebu-Igbo Balogun heritage, and her mother from a strong Black-American legacy. MO the Great’s music bridges the old with the new, reimagining the intersections of rhythm and rap, while sonically exploring hip-hop’s relationship with its influences.
