SunSets #3 (Spring Awakening Mix 2020) The transition between Spring and Summer is usually a time filled with so much hope, and yet this year I find myself, unsurprisingly, stuck in a mire of sad music and foggy ambient evenings. I feel like I'm 15 again, actively searching out songs for heartbreak and longing and just bathing in them day after day. I'm not sure how much other people can relate, but I've found myself going through wild swings of emotion and outlook during the last few months. Sometimes almost euphoric about the possibilities ahead and other times pulled down so far into the realities of the moment that doing almost anything becomes paralyzing. One of the few constants has been preparing and then weirdly performing these mixes each month. It's a magic thing because when I'm done I always feel like the mixes sound both like my current state but also some level of escape that I'm unconsciously reaching for. I'm not entirely sure what I'm reaching for at the moment, but I can tell you that these songs made me feel things that I haven't felt in a while. I feel that longing again. I hope it's melancholy doesn't drag you down, but instead gives you a few drops of hope. Summer isn't here yet but it's coming...
