Ayesha Ali is a teacher, poet, writer, and performer whose work focuses on moving past the internal and external barriers that separate black women and children from their lineage of competence, beauty and power. She has been engaged in mindfulness practice and work for over fifteen years. She is a preschool teacher and has adopted mindfulness practices in her classroom as well as sharing those practices with other teachers. Rashid Hughes was born in Richmond Virginia, into a family that cherished community and culture. In 2010, Rashid graduated from the Howard University Department of Music and the Howard University School of Divinity in 2014. Today, he is a certified mindfulness & yoga teacher and he is a Restorative Justice Program Specialist for a DC based non-profit, SchoolTalkDC. Restorative Justice is a process that Rashid facilitates as an alternative approach to handling conflicts, addressing misbehavior, holding discussions, and repairing harm in schools and communities. He is a co-founder of a newly formed mindfulness community for black & brown people, Heart Refuge Mindfulness Community.
