Lament From The Forest (2011) by Wong Chun-Wai published on 2014-09-13T13:51:18Z Lament from the Forest For Chamber Orchestra Performed by: The Composers Guild Ensemble Lo Hau-man (Conductor) Programme notes “Lament from the Forest” is written as an ancient song of sorrow from the forest. For centuries, people have relentlessly destroyed forests in the name of extractive industries, prioritizing economic gain over environmental protection. The pursuit of personal benefits, convenience, and enjoyment has led many to disregard the devastating consequences their actions have on the planet. Deforestation fuels global warming, disrupts climates, and causes a range of other issues that affect all of us — especially those who call the forest home. Trees are felled, animal habitats are lost, and the daily lives of forest communities are upended. Worse still is the threat posed by “civilized” society — greedy for land, they will stop at nothing to achieve their goals. What have the lives in the forest done wrong? Why must they suffer? Are they all doomed to an inevitable end? This is their song of grief and questioning, a plea for deliverance from their torment. The work is arranged for a larger orchestra, titled "Lament from the Forest II", recorded and published by Ablaze Records in 2016.
