Skarosh by Mark Sowlakis published on 2017-09-28T15:40:59Z More then twenty years ago I became interested in the folk music of Greece and Turkey, as well as some other Balkan areas. I learned this Greek piece of music at a Middle Eastern Workshop in Mendocino CA one summer, and I added some of my own harmonic ideas to it as well. My friend Gary Regina, rhymes with Lump, recorded me playing this in his home studio and added the drone in the background. While I never pursued this music beyond a cursory interest, the influence nonetheless remained and I did end up playing a lot of Klezmer music as a result of this interest for at least ten years after discovering these amazing clarinet traditions. Have a listen, I hope you hear something in this improvisation that you like.... Genre World
