An Updated Definition of Competency-Based Education by Aurora Institute Innovation Spotlight published on 2019-11-12T13:51:54Z iNACOL is now the Aurora Institute! Our first publication under our new name will be an updated definition of competency-based education (CBE), which is used by hundreds of school leaders and policymakers to inform change to policy and practice. The original working definition was developed in 2011, and since then, feedback has prompted revisions to respond to changes in the field and to respond to common misconceptions about what is and isn't. Our Research Director, Eliot Levine, who also manages the CompetencyWorks initiative, sat down to talk about the updated definition with Matthew Shea and Courtney Belolan, ahead of the release.
