Florist (Feat. angela) by Dad Hat published on 2021-06-22T08:38:46Z From the opening riff of the song, it becomes clear that “Florist” is not your standard indie-pop track. The music lends elements from rock, jazz, fusion, and soul to create a unique sound that is entirely Dad Hat. Lyrically, it takes the form of an imaginary conversation between the narrator and his/her would-be lover. The narrator watches the person that they desire most struggle through an “estranged” relationship, and wishes that they could release that person from their failing commitment, to be free to love them in return. However, as many of us can relate to, it is rarely that simple. Instead, the narrator, wishing not to overstep their boundaries, is resigned to second-guessing if their desire is mutual, and wondering if/when the right time would be to profess this love. The climax of the “Florist” encapsulates this inner conflict succinctly: “It’s hard to shake this feeling / Is it as it should be? / Do you love me now?”. Genre Indie
