deaf-child

Multi-instrumentalist (various percussion, guitar), composer, and electronic producer. I’m professionally trained in ethnomusicology, music therapy, and psychiatry. Playing music is fun and therapeutic for me, sure, but *deaf-child* is all about 1) determining the music that I desperately want to hear but does not yet exist, and 2) willing it into existence.

Music that influences me most: Indian and Ghanaian drumming, minimalist American composers, 90s rock (anything involving Kurt Cobain, the first three PJ albums, Superunknown, Purple, and Siamese Dream in particular), artists who aren’t afraid to experiment with sounds and styles that don’t neatly fit into boxes, the rhythms of Meshuggah, the harmonies of Jacob Collier, the melodies of Nils Frahm, the weirdly esoteric fan cultures of Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada, hip hop that focuses on flow and strong beats, Rebirth Brass Band as heard live at the Maple Leaf after a couple whiskey sours, anything jazz within 1 or 2 degrees of separation from Miles Davis, Bobby McFerrin making vocal sound effects, Zappa being Zappa, and anything played decently a sarangi, theremin, or cristal baschet.
