BLOOMBERG GIVES A SPEECH FOR GOLDMAN AT YANKEE STADIUM

INTERVIEWER:
So first I wanna take a quick poll- how many of you would’ve voted for Michael Bloomberg if he ran for president this year? (In 2016).

The room erupts in laughter.

BLOOMBERG:
THESE ARE MY PEEPS.

MORE LAUGHTER.

INTERVIEWER:
These are your peeps: Why did you NOT run?

BLOOMBERG
For a start: My first Campaign platform would be to defend the banks.
You know how well that’s gonna sell in this country.
But seriously someone’s gotta stand up and do it!
WE need a healthy banking system that’s willing to take risk
and nobody’s willing to say that.
the trouble is these campaigns in this day and age
really are about slogans
and not about ISSUES
Anymore
This election you’re gonna see people are voting- you either love or hate-
Mostly HATE vote
But who you hate the least.
That’s what they’re gonna vote for
And they’re not gonna vote on the issues.
I was gonna run
We came very close. We had lawyers in all 50 states.
we had storefronts in Texas to petition signs to get on the ballots
We had commercials written.
I had to know enough about every issue to handle myself in a debate.
The bottom line is the best we could ever hope for would be to get a third of the electoral vote.
AND THE WAY THE CONSTITUTION IS WRITTEN
IF NOBODY HAS A MAJORITY IT GOES TO THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO PICK THE PRESIDENT AND THE SENATE TO PICK THE VICE PRESIDENT.
And the House would’ve picked a Republican because they’re in Republican hands and will still be after this next election.
The Democrats would’ve picked a Democratic candidate.
BUT AN INDEPENDENT HAS NO CHANCE. (which is why he’s D.N.C. in 2020)
UNLESS YOU REALLY COULD MAKE THE CASE THAT YOU’LL GET 50 PERCENT OF THE ELECTORAL VOTE.
All states with the exception of Nebraska and Maine are winner take all
NO CHANCE.

INTERVIEWER:
SO a lot of thought.

BLOOMBERG:
I would’ve done a great job.

Laughter.


BLOOMBERG:
I have predators and the predators have missiles and I have a list of everybody that’s annoyed me or screwed me for the last 74 years.

LOUD LAUGHTER.

INTERVIEWER:
If it had been a different line up- if it had been a BERNIE / TRUMP situation -

BLOOMBERG:
We always thought it would be Trump/ Hilary.
And in the end that would be the combination that I would want to run again.
Because both have VERY HIGH NEGATIVES.
The dynamics would be-
I like Mike but he’s not gonna win therefore I’m gonna vote for the lesser of two evils. And that’s what happens all the time

INTERVIEWER:
Do you regret NOT running?

BLOOMGERG:
GOD AS MY WITNESS I DON’T LOOK BACK. YOU CAN’T DO EVERYTHING. I do regret that I didn’t bet a lot on the Yankees losing last night (Oh by the way- this speech takes place IN YANKEE STADIUM).

ON HILARY VS TRUMP

BLOOMBERG:
I think both candidates are very polarizing. If Hilary were elected- it’s hard to see how a Republican congress- assuming there still is one would work with her any better than they’re working with OBAMA.
If Trump were elected- It’s difficult to see a Democratic Senate- even one where Republicans had a slight majority working for Donald Trump.

On the job of a President
BLOOMBERG:
CONGRESS is something you really have to have on your side if you’re going to accomplish major things (as a President)
And the ways you get congress to work for you-
Is the way you deal with your family.
