This is a modded Marshall Haze 15 head. I modded the overdrive channel and EQ section, because the stock overdrive sound sounded pretty buzzy and scratchy, and it had to much gain. I can imagine it was designed with single coil or pretty low output pickups in general, which may sound quite good.

The modification in the gain channel is pure 2204/2203 preamp with the following alterations:
- switchable 2k7 across 10k cathode resistor on second tube stage for lead / hi-gainish application
- 470p across 100k anode resistor to reduce some of the treble/raspiness
- in the EQ section: 4n7 from junction of treble pot and bass pot to ground to increase bass response. basically this reduces mids and treble from ca. 150Hz onwards. I might experiment with 3n3 or 2n2 in order to get some of the low mid oomph of the jubilee...

After the Tool riffs I switch out the 2k7 resistor to the 2203/2204 mode, then to clean.

I played it at seriously loud levels and recorded some riffs through a Marshall Celestion G12 Vintage 8 Ohms speaker. Guitar was a Music Man Axis Sport.
I used a Sennheiser MD419, pointing at a ca. 45° angle towards where the cone meets the dustcap. It was placed ca. 6..8cm away. The MD419 is acheaper alternative to a MD421. It's a super cardioid, and has an earlier bass roll off (~200Hz), and a more neutral Treble emphasis (~ 2dB) than a MD 421.
The settings of the controls are as shown on the picture. There was zero post processing of any kind done to the track.
