I also have an all classical channel under my name Dr. Mitch Fadem.
I got a Masters in Performance from the Vienna Academy of Music in Austria. In the US I studied with Robert Marcellus (Cleveland, Ohio), then with Rudolf Jettel (Vienna, Austria). Played in an opera and ballet orchestra in Cape Town, South Africa for several years. Returned to the US and stopped playing to get a PhD in organic chemistry and MS in biochemistry. Spent 26+ years as a military scientist in the Army and Air Force as a reservist while teaching at a university. 9/11 happened and I was activated spending the next 12 years serving my country full time. Did two combat tours in Afghanistan, was shot twice, hit with shrapnel from a suicide bomber, and survived a poison gas attack. Finally MEDEVAC'd to Germany where I spent a month in the hospitol. Retired in 2013 as a LtCol with a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Continued to do assignments from the military as a civilian scientist in CENTCOM, Sierra Leone, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Turkey. Ended up building a very small chemistry and microbiology research lab and continued to work on FDA GRAS and Food Safe formulas for microorganism destruction. Of course I came back to music and started playing clarinet and saxophone in a community jazz big band. I never played jazz before and the transition from classical is a very slow process. I am now a student of Jay Metcalf, BetterSax.com taking his courses and his mentoring. I highly recommend checking him out. His philosophy and methods of teaching are excellent.
