Die Eiche im Dom by Barry Jordan published on 2019-11-18T07:19:38Z Commissioned by the Parish Council of Magdeburg Cathedral in 2009 for the celebration of the 800th anniversary of the foundation laying of the cathedral. Text by Arnim Juhre. The brief was an "Oratorio"; in the end however it was a strange conglomerate of a play, a history lesson, and some music. There was a figure called the "Kalendermann" who appeared before the music and gave a chronology of certain years; he had a special musical signal. The binding element for the whole thing, which is essentially an anti-war piece, is Ernst Barlach's oaken war memorial in the cathedral (the "Eiche" - oak - of the title), which has its own interesting history - commissioned after WW I, erected and dedicated in 1929 but removed again only 5 years later and declared "degenerate" by the Nazis, reerected 1955. The history of the cathedral during the Nazi era needs some serious work; much is still kept in the dark! The soloists were: Stefanie Fels, Katharina Thimm, Nico Eckert and Daniel Blumenschein. I conducted members of the Magdeburgische Philharmonie and the Magdeburger Domchor. 26.09.2009 Genre Classical Contains tracks Jubelt nicht unbedacht by Barry Jordan published on 2019-11-18T07:14:14Z Der blinde Seher by Barry Jordan published on 2019-11-18T07:14:12Z Leibhaftiger Psalm by Barry Jordan published on 2019-11-18T07:14:11Z Der Gott, der wirklich mit uns war by Barry Jordan published on 2019-11-18T07:14:10Z Gegen den Rachegeist by Barry Jordan published on 2019-11-18T07:14:07Z
