S3 Ep6 - Tune in to the Twyford Folk Music Workshop by The RG10 Podcast published on 2021-10-11T17:21:37Z In this episode we hear how the enjoyment of playing an instrument, the enduring appeal of folk music, and the vision of a local man underpin the continued success of the monthly Twyford Folk Music Workshop. Colin McEwen explains how he set up the group in 2013 largely for his own enjoyment, then discovered a pool of people either interested in progressing their current playing ability or keen to get back into music after leaving it behind earlier in life. The monthly workshops have attracted an average of 10-12 musicians throughout the past eight years: whilst some are regulars, there is a steady flow of people coming in and others moving on to new things after gaining sufficiently in confidence. We hear about the format of a typical workshop and how it accommodates musicians of varying abilities and helps them develop their skills within a supportive group. We also learn how Colin found a way to continue playing together during lockdown, unintentionally providing free entertainment in several local neighbourhoods! The Twyford Folk Music Workshop meets on the first Wednesday evening of the month, from 8pm to 10pm at St Mary's Church Centre in Twyford. For more information visit http://twyfordmusic.uk/.
