NPR Podcast Contest - Monnishaa Tambe by LW published on 2022-03-14T13:29:53Z Language is much more than just a means of communication. It is a powerful tool that connects people on an emotional level. In today’s world, where families are separated by physical distance and cultures are spread across the globe, language can play the role of a perfect uniter. This podcast highlights a story of how one first generation immigrant couple used language as a connector to bring generations together. Their quest to keep the next generation connected to their family and cultural roots paved the way to them starting a community led language school. Over its 20 year journey, the school has shaped over 1000 young minds and has given them a solid cultural foundation. Ultimately the podcast gives an important message that cultural assimilation is not about giving up one’s own culture. It is rather the opposite. Strong connections to the cultural roots helps one be confident and gives them an identity which in turn helps them express and assimilate better with other cultures. Genre Storytelling
