My relative was failed by the care home system for 8 years. 5 care homes, 2 counties. She died March 2017 in a care home that continues to remain in Special Measures. I began reporting this home in 2014, only a month after she has moved in and was admitted to Torquay Hospital dehydrated. Jan 2015 it was rated Requires Improvement. I carried on reporting and in 2016 the home was placed in Special Measures, failing to meet peoples' fluid and dietary needs. My relative's hospital dietician letter stated this was certainly happening in her case. Feb 2016 admitted again, dehydrated. She nearly died. In fact we were told this was the end. No it was not, but it would of been if we had not taken charge. The question over cause of death is one that alarms me, how many people recorded as dying of 'Dementia'.
