Tom Lambert has long told a story of taking part in a nuclear test in the Nevada desert while in the military. In 2023, his son Tim did some digging and learned on May 25, 1953, his father was part of a mostly forgotten historic event that had immense foreign policy implications. Starting with his father’s account as perhaps one of the last living witnesses to an atomic test called Grable, Tim pieced together what may be the first comprehensive account of the only time a nuclear projectile was fired from a cannon (known as Atomic Annie).
