Mosaic Number 2 by Thomas Parker Williams published on 2024-09-06T00:24:17Z Music from 2024 For the past year I have been working on compositions that have been inspired by beat oriented, Techno, electronic music and the early work of the minimalist composer Steve Reich. Some of these works have a visual component that is a transcription of the music either in literal or abstract ways, and form part of my “Wordless: Drawn and Painted Narratives” series. My intent with the “Beats and Solos” music is to create works that use steady rhythms, as in DJ arranged “House” or “Techno”, as a foundation. Then I bring jazz and contemporary classical elements into a structure that supports improvised solos on saxophones and electronic wind instrument. Some of these works use time signatures other than 4/4. The “Mosaic Series” are formal compositions written in standard notation. Scores in PDF form are available for download on my website. These works employ pulses and repeated phrases that carry through the piece and are combined with other phrases over a harmonic structure that changes key often. Some of the “Mosaic Series” works include improvised solos. I view these works as musical mosaics, constructed of small elements to make a large composition. Some of these works have a visual transcription. All of the works are multi-track recordings featuring keyboards, synthesizers, horn parts, drum programming, and acoustic percussion. All instruments are played by me and recorded in my studio. For more information www.thomasparkerwilliams.com. Genre Classical
