The Sunmills

The Sunmills are a Utah-based alt-rock trio known for blending hard-driving riffs with funk-laced grooves and a sharp sense of humor. Early releases pulled from Hendrix-style guitar work and the swagger of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, pairing infectious energy with lyrics that poke fun at modern life’s obsession with image, success, and curated identity.

Their debut album, The Art of Burning Bridges (2025), took the long way around. What began as a one-week studio session turned into a multi-year process shaped by delays, a pandemic shutdown, and a full studio rebuild. When it finally came together, the band didn’t just finish a record. They made one they actually believed in.

Now, The Sunmills are expanding their sound.

Their latest single, “They Tell Lies,” marks a shift into darker, more cinematic territory, drawing closer to the arena-sized intensity of bands like Muse and The Killers. Lyrically, it tackles something new for the band: the realization that we’re living in a post-truth world, where competing versions of reality are shaped as much by profit as by fact.

Currently working on their second album with producer Jed Jones (The Killers, Post Malone), The Sunmills are leaning into a more deliberate and focused songwriting process. The result is a set of songs with sharper hooks, clearer direction, and broader appeal, while still retaining the personality and edge that define their sound.
