Revolt Against An Age Of Plenty - double LP and CD by The Great Leap Forward

Former bIG*fLAME singer and bassist Alan Brown returns with his long term solo project The Great Leap Forward, releasing a powerful and trademark new album ‘Revolt Against An Age Of Plenty’.

Brown’s approach through The Great Leap Forward has always been incisive political and social commentary layered over sharp yet melodic guitar pop – and with a touch of electro thrown in for good measure.This album ‘Revolt Against An Age Of Plenty’ - Brown's first release for 9 years - continues this trademark style but in arguably a much more rounded, mature and cohesive manner than previous releases.

Vigorous, scintillating and life-affirming, this 13-song album sees Brown reach a milestone birthday, as explored in 'Can You Kanreki?'. Then there are the trademark political and social vignettes - such as the title song of the album 'Revolt Against An Age Of Plenty', the wistful 'dEBRA 2021' (a re-working of the bIG*fLAME classic 'Debra') and the ascerbic 'It's A Wonderful Lie'.
In addition, there's some quite personal reflection on recent life-changing events, mental health and a need for a sense of belonging and community, as developed in 'Things That Make Me Happy', 'Giving Back Is Good For You', and the unusually long, brooding, and out-of-character 'Songs To Die To Reprise'.
To add even further depth and colour to an already wide-ranging collection of songs, Brown pays homage to his musical heroes not only through the opening track 'Songs To Die To' but also across most songs on the album, with musical nods here and there as a belated thanks for their early and continuing influence.
