Stephanie Bettman's journey in music is as dynamic as it is inspiring. A born performer, she began dancing at the age of three, playing violin at 8, acting at 13, and singing at 14. Trained classically in both violin and vocal performance, her initial dream was to be an actress. After years of performing on the stage and dabbling with writing, she merge her musical prowess with a career in acting. This dream, however, evolved as she realized her true calling lay elsewhere.
While at Oberlin, a moment of clarity occurred as Stephanie listened to The Cowboy Junkies. It was then she understood her path wasn't in classical music, but in the realm of country and folk, genres that spoke directly to people's hearts. This revelation led her from Ohio to Chicago and eventually to Los Angeles. In these cities, she not only pursued acting but also nurtured her songwriting talent, influenced heavily by folk and bluegrass.
Her musical journey took a definitive turn with the formation of the Americana Folk duo, Bettman & Halpin. For 15 plus years, they toured nationally, earning comparisons to renowned artists and releasing seven albums. Yet, Stephanie's artistic spirit yearned for more.
A new phase began with Bruno Mars' "Unorthodox Jukebox," inspiring her to explore pop music. The COVID-19 pandemic provided an unexpected pause, allowing her to reflect deeply on her artistic direction. This period of introspection, coupled with energy healing, revealed a vision of a solo career that was both diverse and holistic, encompassing music, dance, and visual storytelling.
Stephanie's rejuvenation was further fueled by contemporary artists, leading her to rediscover her first love, dance. This exploration brought her to competitive ballroom dancing, adding another dimension to her artistic expression.
Now, Stephanie writes music that is a reflection of her journey, songs that are personal, empowering, and rooted in joy. Her music isn't just a career; it's a testament to the power of embracing change and the beauty of artistic evolution. Stephanie Bettman stands as a symbol of resilience, creativity, and the enduring power of music to transform lives.
Post-Oberlin, I dove into the vibrant arts scene of Chicago. There, I developed my acting skills and began songwriting with the all-women folk trio, Sweet Accord. My creative path then led me to Los Angeles, where I balanced acting with songwriting. Influenced by Dolly Parton, The Dixie Chicks, and New Grass Revival, I co-founded the Americana Folk duo, Bettman & Halpin. We toured nationally for 15 years, and I released seven full-length CDs, evolving artistically with each one.
My musical journey took an exciting turn when I heard Bruno Mars' "Unorthodox Jukebox," leading me towards a more pop-oriented sound and the project "Be Big." The COVID-19 pandemic, while pausing my touring, gave me a unique opportunity for introspection and personal growth. During this time, I engaged in deep inner work and energy healing, which opened my eyes to a solo career encompassing music, singing, dancing, aerial performance, and video production.
This creative renaissance in my life has been fueled by artists like Harry Styles, Keith Urban, Imagine Dragons, Ed Sheeran, Sarah Bareilles, and Camila Cabello. Reconnecting with my first love, dance, I immersed myself in competitive ballroom dancing, a passion reignited while making the music video for "When We’re Together." This new phase is a journey of fearless and authentic expression, embracing every aspect of my artistic identity.
In my current projects, I write songs that uplift and empower, mirroring my own journey and strength. My music is a celebration of joy, life, and the shared human experience. As a singer-songwriter and performer, I aim to be a beacon of feminine power and a voice for individual and environmental health and well-being. My story is one of continuous growth, transformation, and the enduring power of music to heal and inspire.
