Shamara Ma’at

Shamara Ma’at (Costa) was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. A graduate of Firestone High School’s Theatre Arts program, she moved to NYC in 2015 (shout out Dyckman) and pursued a career in Musical Theatre. She was hired as a Singer for Disney Cruise Line and she performed in Frozen and sang songs from The Princess and the Frog and Lion King in other shows aboard the “Wonder” cruise ship. After joining the Actor’s Equity professional stage actors' union, and earning her BFA in Theatre Studies from Kent State University in 2018, she began to pursue her own creativity.

The unexpected death of her father influenced her to more fearlessly pursue her goals. She trained in makeup artistry at Bareminerals and she began to model with photographers in the Akron and Cleveland area. She curated and hosted Taste for Talent, a showcase for singers and rappers in the Akron area. In the meantime, she honed her songwriting talent and worked on her rap delivery.

Shamara recorded and released her first hip hop single, Juice, in February 2020. Juice saw radio play on 88.1 through the Late Night Local Talent special. A few of her influences are Erykah Badu, Missy Elliott, TLC, OutKast, Andre 300, and Chance the Rapper.
