Emily Isherwood - Calibrate by Art Is Hard Records

Emily Isherwood (fka Nugget) is a Bristolian magician, familiar to anyone who has ever frequented one of Bristol's record shops or perhaps those who caught her fronting frenetic acts like Rink or Skeleton Frames. The decision at the end of last year to start recording music under her own name feels like a symbolic one. With it, Emily has drawn a line under what came before whilst also undoubtedly being influenced by those previous experiences.

'Calibrate' is the first track to be shared in this new guise and is a startling introduction. The stripped back sound of the earlier Nugget Demo EP is replaced by sparse electronics segueing into swelling choruses bubbling with raw emotion. It's not the sort of music you put on in the background, rather an all consuming experience requiring your full attention. Partly this is down to Emily's knack for stringing together poetic lines that feel effortless in their construction.

Recorded in a studio just outside Bath, the track forms part of a larger collection set for release on Art is Hard later in 2018. In the meantime, Emily is heading on a nine date UK tour with a full band in tow supporting Black Foxxes:
