Alex Chilltown - Cwtch by Art Is Hard Records published on 2015-09-18T07:04:15Z 7" hand cut record, limited to 25. Available from our site from 1pm, 18.9.15: http://artishardrecords.limitedrun.com/products/559354?preview=true It’s not like we’ve been waiting for someone to reclaim the word Cwtch from that ballbag manchild James Corden, but we’re sort of glad Alex Chilltown has come along with a song splendid enough to make you forget the fairly tedious sitcom which brought the Welsh word into the public vocabulary. Soundcloud Initially the song talks of ‘concrete misery’ and rainy bank holidays and you start to wonder where the title came from but just as you do, the song swings round as frontman Josh sings of how “this town can be pretty, if you are here with me” - a sentiment anyone who grew up somewhere crap can easily relate to. It’s not going to win an Ivor Novello but this is part of the song’s charm. Softly sung harmonies drift over guitars which alternate between distorted and melodic; an effect which makes us think of a certain other Alex who seems to be doing ok these days. Alex Chilltown are currently readying their debut album and we’re looking forward to hearing more of their self-described boredcore. As with previous Hand Cut singles, Cwtch will be released on lathe cut 7″ and limited to 25 copies. The 25 copies will be available from our shop here at 1pm today! As always it’s worth pointing out that because these records are handcut, they will sound slightly lofi! If you’re not down with that, then the track is available for free download from both our Bandcamp and Soundcloud. Genre Alternative Comment by shiri.wav digggging this 2015-09-18T15:07:31Z
