01 Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled 1 by Rosemary Broadbent published on 2015-04-27T17:10:11Z The cantata 'Let not your heart be troubled' was commissioned to allow performers and listeners to reflect on the text, chapter 14 of St. John's Gospel. The extract here is the first and third movements of a 30-minute work, performed by Discantus, and conducted by David Ward. It was first performed in Manchester in 2003. The centrepiece of the chapter is the verse 'If ye love me, keep my commandments' and this is sung to the matchless setting by Thomas Tallis. The opening theme, and a motif from the Tallis setting, recur in several movements as unifying phrases. Complete scores, individual movements and a CD are available from the composer www.rosemarybroadbent.co.uk Genre Cantata for SATB and organ
