120rray

120rray is the new solo producer project of Miikka Paakkinen, a Berlin based artist with a long track record of playing underground electronic music in its many forms.

“The project is heavily influenced by Detroit techno, dub, and dark cinematic ambiances. Sprinkle in some occasional broken beats, analog warmth and a fascination for the futuristic, and you have my main ingredients right there”, says Miikka.

Miikka has deejayed for more than 15 years and used to hold a 5-year residency at nationwide radio station Basso in his native Helsinki, where he also organised regular club nights and underground parties as a part of the Groundwire collective. He became known in the city’s underground electronic music scene in the early 2010’s for being one of the few djs spinning the latest ground breaking, bass heavy cuts from labels like Livity Sound, Hyperdub and Swamp 81 that were gaining popularity in the UK at the time. He later rounded off his palette with ambient, techno and house influences to craft sets that focused on a certain vibe or ambiance, rather than a strict genre.

Miikka is also one of the founders of Synth Swap - a community based online marketplace where musicians can rent instruments and gear from one another peer-to-peer.
