Guy Biederman is the author of five collections of poetry and short prose, including Nova Nights (Nomadic Press, 2021), and Edible Grace, micro prose (KYSO Flash Press, 2019). His short work has appeared over 200 times in journals such as Carve, Flashback Fiction, great weather for Media, Riddled with Arrows, Bull, MacQueen’s Quinterly, and Exposition Review, where he was twice a Flash 405 winner. Recently, his writing has received an Editor’s Choice Award, a Publisher’s Choice Award, and been nominated for Best of The Net. His new collection, Translated From The Original, one-inch punch fiction, will be published by Nomadic Press in 2022. Born in the Chihuahuan desert, raised on a stingray in Ventura, Guy began writing as a peace corps volunteer during a civil war in Guatemala in 1981,
honed his craft pulling weeds and planting flowers as a gardener in San Francisco, and later received his M.A. from San Francisco State, where his teaching career began. He’s been a creative-writing midwife since 1991.
Guy has taught low fat fiction, creative writing, and Send It at S.F. State, College of Marin, Santa Rosa Junior College, various art centers, and privately in studios, barns, living rooms, garden sheds, ferries, cafes, and once at a bus stop in Corte Madera. For twelve years he published the literary magazine Bust Out Stories, along with a dozen books by bay area.
He lives and writes on a houseboat with his wife and tuxedo cat and walks the planks daily.
