Ayatollah Hussein Ali Khamenei – the leader who defined modern Iran by Proletarian Radio

From his student days onwards, Ayatollah Khamenei’s life story was interwoven with the history of modern Iran. In the 1960s and 70s, Ali Khamenei was arrested six times by the shah’s secret police, Savak, enduring torture and internal exile. These years of underground resistance solidified his revolutionary credentials. Meanwhile, his experience on the frontlines of the US-backed 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war strengthened his antipathy and mistrust towards US imperialism.
