PROJECT (prasad + lewis) PROJECT Toronto P R O J E C T is the work of Prasad Bidaye and Lewis Kaye exploring the possibilities of sound manipulation, improvised programming and live re-mixing. Our purpose is to transcend the genres of contemporary electronic music while in pursuit of spontaneous frequencies and other sonic forces that ease the body and move the mind. Central to this philosophy is an openness towards collaboration across the entire spectrum of media. P R O J E C T first took public shape with a performance in the Toronto Curling Hall of Fame as part of the Vibe Tribe party of July, 1994. Since then, P R O J E C T has performed selectively, honing an approach towards the presentation of electronic sounds that encompasses both self-composed and arranged loops as well as more "traditional" DJ sets. But, of course, such differences are subject to debate.... In the early naughties, the thrust of P R O J E C T activity revolved around a series of events titled OPTICAL at the Cameron House (Toronto). These events served as a space for electronic jam sessions with a spotlight on live video art. 'VJs' included Tigerbalm Red (a design and video performance collective which included Karlen Chang and Patrick Liu), and Amanda Ramos and Michele Teran, who performed with the Keystroke experimental video processing platform. In 2001, P R O J E C T performed several times with _badpacket_ (Michelle Kasprzak and Mike Steventon), including at the 7A*11D International Festival of Performance Art, the iMAGES Festival of Independent Film and Video opening party, the Ultrazone_01 Festival in Montreal, the Tranz<-->Tech (the Toronto International Video Art Biennial) and the Video Primer exhibition opening at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
