Leslie Marshall Show - 4/11/18 - Teamster President Details Suspicious Job Site Work Death of Member by Progressive Voices Network published on 2018-04-12T02:37:00Z Leslie is joined by James P. Hoffa, General President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The two discuss the Teamsters' investigation into the Oct. 2017 death of Linda Neal, a worker at XPO Logistics at their (Verizon) Memphis warehouse. The warehouse is predominately African American women workers and white male supervisors. There are a total of 900 workers - 350 fulltime and 450 part-time – at the Verizon facility. The initial investigation of Neal’s death has expanded into multiple accounts of sexual harassment/assault, discrimination – making women take their bras off to work, grabbing women, making unwanted sexual advances - and other forms of horrific treatment from management. Linda Neal died in the warehouse on Oct 17, 2017 after being denied her request to go home after not feeling well. Shortly after being denied to go home or a break and forced to continue to work, Neal passed out and was denied any type of medical attention (CPR) and management waited 30 mins. before calling 911. Linda had previously passed out at work at least twice before due to exhaustion and complained to the family on a daily basis about the warehouse which had no AC/heat, structural issues like the ceiling falling in, and the overall filth of the warehouse, etc. Additional issues include: · Workers pass out frequently in the warehouse from exhaustion, overheating, dehydration, etc. · No ventilation system in the warehouse (AC/Heat) and workers are not allowed to wear jackets while working · Ceiling is coming down and has hit people in the head · Mold, dust mites, snakes, and spiders · Multiple Accounts of sexual harassment/discrimination from supervisors to workers · Fires occur from faulty forklifts · Management does not evacuate the building when fires occur Leslie and President Hoffa also discussed his recent participation in the MLK50 rally, and how Dr. King not only fought for civil rights, but workers rights as well.
