Upon a Red Horse - Act IV: Five Minutes to Midnight by Paranoid Strain Orchestra published on 2023-05-02T04:22:48Z The Paranoid Strain Orchestra presents: "Upon a Red Horse - Act IV: Five Minutes to Midnight" "Upon a Red Horse" is a 5-act musical pseudo-biography about the real-life story of Bill Cooper, a conspiracy theorist, author, radio host, and all around interesting guy whose heyday was the 1990s. Listen to Act IV at https://www.podpage.com/the-paranoid-strain/new-upon-a-red-horse-act-iv This album contains all the music presented in Act IV. Read below for a brief synopsis of the tracks. --- This penultimate set begins with the short arena rocker “Theme to Act IV” before the 90’s-style grunge of “Bubba” takes over with its raucous energy, featuring some excellent screaming vocals by Turd F. “King Jesus” is a fun gospel-inspired bluegrass tune. Be sure to listen to the podcast to hear the Chads’ hilarious bit during the breakdown. In “Five Minutes to Midnight”, Turd once again puts his powerful vocals on display with manic punk aggression. “Jefferson” offers a nostalgic reflection of one’s desire to return home amidst a nuclear apocalypse, and “Dylanesque” demonstrates the consequences of achieving fame. Daniel A’s brilliant musical and lyrical talents are on full display here for these two tracks. We credit our own Lucifer Jones for uttering “Are We Done?” at the end of band rehearsal one night, inspiring us to write a song right there on the spot. The muse often strikes in mysterious ways. The next one is called “Adam and Stanley” and features Fearful Jesuit on vocals (he wrote this!). Fearful is doing his best German philosopher's impression in this bizarre ode to Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. The unassuming “Cabanarama” evolved from one of Moisty’s many improvisational loop jams that he tends to play during rehearsal breaks. This one features a little bit of everyone. Big credit goes to Turd for fitting all the pieces together during the mixdown. “Do Your Research” is a fun little tune that keeps changing keys. This set closes with “The Darkness of the Moon”, a short shredfest that pays homage to 80’s hair metal bands.
