Owen Roberts, born in Bristol, England in 1988, is a composer, performer and sound artist based in Berlin, Germany. Owen studied composition at the Universities of Durham and Oxford with Trevor Wishart, Martyn Harry, Robert Saxton, Peter Manning and Fabrice Fitch, achieving BA (Hons) in Music and Mst (Composition), respectively.
As a composer, Owen´s acoustic and electroacoustic work focuses on the development, statement and negation of spectral textures through timbre and rhythm. Past compositional collaborations have included Oxford Philomusica, BBC Singers, Chroma Ensemble, Christopher Redgate, Mindpirates e.V, Darren Johnston (Array, UK), Durham Chamber Choir, Durham University Orchestra, St. Cuthbert´s Society Choir and the Syzygy Ensemble, of which he is a founding member.
As Eugene, Owen works with bass clarinet, electronics and electroacoustically treated samples to improvise and explore repetitive overlapping textural structures. Solo performances have taken place in Berlin at Naherholung Sternchen, Heizhaus, Feed Soundspace, LEAP Gallery, Mindpirates, Contort and the Y. Collaborative performances have included Musicmakers (Berghain, CTM Festival 2013, Berlin) with Sam Barker, Lando Kal, Tim Exile, Privacy, Easton West and Kathy Alberici, MU (Mindpirates, 2012, Berlin) with Audrey Chen, Robin Hayward and Mike Majkowski and duo performances with Raz O´Hara in Dresden, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Geneva and Berlin.
Recent film score credits include Missing Children (Short, dir. Robin Lochmann, Berlin 2012), MU (Short/Theatre/Installation, Darren Johnston, Berlin 2012) and The Shepherd´s Children (dir. Toby Robson, London 2009), a collaboration with Matthew Kirk and James Carey, shown at Cannes Film Festival 2010.
