About the mix: House music and the underground culture that surrounds it are a social, cultural and political technology of collective abandonment that was organically designed by queer, latino and black crowds to bypass societal oppression in temporary spaces of suspension from such norms. It is a pure expression of freedom and community that, when done well, is able to bypass rigid barriers of class, race, gender, sexuality and background. My mix focusses on a mixture of old and new tracks that signal moments were I was able to feel the power of this music and understand that it counteracted and forced me to question my own socialisation as a white, heterossexual male, opening up new avenues for my own expression as a whole being that didn't have to adhere (and was invited to fight against) such normative conformities.
