Nico Widdowson Nico Widdowson London Award winning pianist Nico Widdowson has mutual love and respect for the finesse of Harlem stride piano and the grit of free improvisation. He is involved in various original projects including his own, The Nico Widdowson Trio, the grooves of ‘MABGATE’ and the space explorations of Fergus Quill. His musical collaborations have been featured on Giles Peterson, Jamie Cullum, Soweto Kinch and Deb Grant’s shows on BBC, as well as Jazz FM and Worldwide FM. Earlier this year he won the Tina May Award for Young Jazz Musician of the Year. Over the last two years he's spent his time writing and workshopping songs with his trio at residencies across Soho to form the material for a new record. With this music he's been sharing a message he's learned from all his favourite musicians he's ever played with: to encourage people to care a little less about making mistakes and a little more about being themselves.
