Journeys by Nicky Hind published on 2024-04-09T22:53:17Z At the beginning of this year (2024) I started a regular engagement playing piano at a local nightspot (Andre’s Lounge in Lakeport, California), which has enlivened my interest in writing music for the piano. This album, Journeys, is a collection of pieces I have written since then, combined with others revived from previous years. Sojourns, Journeys, Mementos, and Lost World are all written this year. And (excepting Mementos), represent for me a new way of thinking about functional harmony, which I plan to develop in future work. A Far Cry and Reverie are adaptations of ensemble pieces that first appeared on my Hindsight album. Sequence in G Minor and Homecomings are among my earliest compositions. Beginnings was written for the arrival of a baby girl. Autumn Leaves is my version of the timeless classic.
