This is where my cousin Malak El Shishiny comes in. She is a 28 year old lawyer, successful, cheerful, and to our aunt and her mother's dismay, single. There have been many attempts of setting up my cousin with suitors here and there in embarrassing encounters, and this story shows just how awkward a set up can be. Although this may seem like a unique case, it isn’t, at all, as this issue is one faced by millions of Egyptian women. It's not necessarily that girls don't want to find Mr. Right, it’s that the traditional ways that things are done is outdated in the eyes of younger generations, yet continues to persist by older female relatives.
