you were smooth enough to cut through my rough edges
we didn’t need a preacher or empty pledges
it’s been a long ride ‘n sometimes you get a bit ahead of me
but I always play catchup so here I come, can’t you see

we played hard and always laid it all on the line
big money or little money we’d go for broke every time
