Recorded live while playing Camp Celtic Chaos at Burning Man Multiverse, Volume XXII of our Movements mix series is brought to you by Lahore born Haider Uppal. Having briefly explored house and techno music during a stint in Detroit, Haider’s star is quickly rising as one of the most promising electronic music producers coming out of Pakistan. With a recent feature with Mixmag’s guest editor Nabihah Iqbal for the magazine’s South Asian Week, Uppal has seen releases on Nie Wieder Schlafen, Dream Culture, Traum Schallplatten and Everything Will Be Okay along with collaborations with Luis Leon and a recent remix for Powel. Where he’s built a reputation for himself in crafting spacious and rolling soundscapes tinged with organics, the mix that Haider has woven here steps markedly away to reveal a broader taste range for the young producer. From the jiving swing in its introduction through to the electro breaks at its close, the mix is peppered with unreleased original music from Haider and his affiliate Saqib that are anchored between old favorites. The mix is woven flawlessly into an elegant and effortless journey that speaks volumes of his acumen as a selector and sets a high promise for all of the dance floors, both virtual and physical, that Haider has yet to grace.
