"In 2016, Dr. Michael Grandner, director of the Sleep and Health Research Program at the University of Arizona and director of the Behavioral Sleep Medicine Clinic at the Banner-University Medical Center, wrote that the average amount of time that Americans take to fall asleep is 22 minutes, citing „2008: Sleep Disorders Data Documentation, Codebook, and Frequencies“ and the „National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey“.

„hiss, doze“ is a 22-minute-long mix/collage of tape rips, a reflection on recent personal insomnia-related experiences and the inability to fall asleep within that time span. With tape hiss, by many perceived as pleasant white noise, clashing with the rather unsettling distortion of the music in this recording, the aim was to capture an atmosphere that would equal the unrewarding state of half-sleep."
